Yesterday a jury convicted Anne "Mickey" Faville's husband of voluntary manslaughter in her 2000 death. Shortly afterward he killed himself. Rather than remember the last words of the man found guilty of ending her life, let's remember that life.
Let's remember a friend to ALCA, an elementary school teacher who loved her work and loved writing. Let's remember her at the HIghland Summer Conference; let's remember her own words.
Below are poems from Mickey Faville herself, published in the 1994 edition of ALCA-lines. In the middle of the busy-ness of life, let's remember the power of truth and fireflies.

Reflections of last night--
The sudden shower drumming
On the tin roof
Dousing the lights
Of the fireflies
Who creep from the ground
With trepidation
The days have been so wet
They hide in the trees
Under the umbrella
Of walnut leaves
And wait
For a sign from the
Disappearing sun
To appear to each other
To me
Each flash of light
Like a wish or
A prayer rising to heaven
I worry about the wishes
When it rains
And do their glorious sparks
And flashes
Count if I am not there to see?
I want to sit in the clover
On the hill in the dew
And count and see
Them all so none is wasted
Or goes wanting
For notice.
